Zone in on the kitchen-diner

By

By definition a kitchen-diner will be a larger, open-plan living space and usually involve an island or peninsular design that may include a hob and/or sink arrangement on the kitchen side with serving/seating area on the user side.

Blum’s Dynamic Space planning concept is fully applicable to this arrangement – organising storage according to zones of activity.

Storage zones:

  • Grey = Consumables
  • Orange = Non-Consumables
  • Blue = Cleaning
  • Yellow = Preparation
  • Red = Cooking

Around the cooking zone wide, deep drawers (Blum 65kg full extension Tandembox) will be needed for easy storage and access to pots, pans etc.

Crockery should be easily stored and removed, using Blum’s flexible-size plate holders.

Around the sink area the Blum under-sink drawer uses normally wasted space to store cleaning materials and below that separate waste bins can be suspended using Blum’s system that can now be fitted with Servo-Drive automatic opening so that both hands can be used to hold items.

Storage of cooking ingredients like oils, spices, herbs and sauces should all be contained in full extension drawers fitted with Orga-Line internal dividing systems. The same extends to cutlery and utensils.

The fundamental aspect of all of this is that all drawers and pull-outs must be full extension for complete access to items stored at the back. No fixed shelves! Internal organisation is essential and Servo-Drive automatic opening is a system which, once experienced, will become a permanent choice.
