Lighting a kitchen for festive gatherings
Can you believe it’s December already? This year has absolutely flown by and I expect most of you are already excitedly (or maybe I should say frantically) preparing for the festive period.
December is one of the busiest times of year in any kitchen and I’m sure many of you will be hosting for family and friends this year. Whether it’s the big day on the 25th, a New Years Eve party, or just Christmas drinks with friends, the scene certainly needs to be set for the occasion!
Read on for a few hints and tips that will help to create ambiance and atmosphere in your kitchen:
When choosing LED lighting for a kitchen, one of the most important things to remember before deciding where to place it is to select the correct colour temperature. In a traditionally styled kitchen ‘warm white’ LED lighting is best, but in a kitchen that has a more contemporary feel, ‘cool white’ lighting will better complement the finishes.
Any social occasion needs to have a calm and relaxed feel about it and strategically positioning mood lighting around your kitchen will help to achieve the intended vibe. Colour changing flexible strip lighting allows you to change the colour of the light emitted according to the exact mood you want to create, whether it’s a relaxing blue or a more girly purple for a girls night in that’s desired. When positioned along kitchen plinths, this type of lighting will work to highlight the flooring and bring the room to life which is ideal for creating an atmosphere. You may also want to place strip lighting under a kitchen island worktop to turn it into a focal point. The surface can then be used to showcase canapés or mince pies, inviting guests to have a nibble.
Kitchens which incorporate glass fronted cabinetry into their design scheme should be emphasised as a feature throughout the year, but at a time when there’s going to be lots of guests admiring your kitchen, why not show off your special glassware and crockery? Draw attention to these pieces with ‘warm white’ LED lighting solutions placed inside the cabinetry in a traditionally styled kitchen or, if your contemporary kitchen feature shelving, do the same with ‘cool white’ LED spotlights.
