Lighting a Summer Kitchen…

With the school Summer holidays fast approaching (can you believe how quickly this year is going?!) now is the ideal time to prepare yourself and ensure the ‘hub of the home’, your kitchen, is ready for the multitude of roles it’s going to need to play in the next few months.

It’s likely that despite the forecast for ‘record-breaking’ temperatures this Summer, there’s going to be the odd occasion where your kitchen will be used as a shelter from a mid-afternoon downpour. One way of lifting the mood when the skies are grey outside is with colour changing LED strip lighting. In situations like this, try setting the hue to a vibrant green as a zesty shade is sure to liven everyone up.

You wont just be using the kitchen when the suns not shining this Summer; this might be a little optimistic of me, but if England happens to get to the final of the FIFA World Cup (perhaps I should use the situation of Andy Murray reaching the final of Wimbledon instead?!) chances are we’ll all be throwing parties to celebrate the occasion. You’ll always find people in the kitchen at parties, so give the space atmosphere and ambiance with mood lighting solutions. Make the most of the best features in your kitchen such as the glossy cabinetry, a kitchen island, or your best crockery with in-cabinet lighting, or flexible strip lighting which highlights the areas you want to show off.

Another typical Summer time scenario is the day when the kids get bored of being at home and you just don’t know what to do with them. An activity that never fails to please is cookery; whether you’re making strawberries and cream to eat whilst watching Wimbledon, or a fresh salad to accompany dinner, it’s an activity they always seem to enjoy, but also one which needs to be done safely. It’s crucial your worktops are lit properly, especially when there are little hands doing the work, so position task lighting above a worktop to ensure the area is properly lit and limit the risk of accidents. LED lighting placed within drawers and cupboards is also worth considering for added convenience.
