Designer Q&A:

Q) What was your brief from the client?

To create a kitchen in a new extension fit for 21st century family life. The open-plan space would incorporate dining and living, a breakfast pantry and an island that would seat five.

The client is an interior designer so had a very clear vision of how she imagined the kitchen. She wanted a clean, in-frame kitchen in a warm colour tone and an accent colour for the island, a cupboard for coats and boots, a range cooker, a bar area and an American-style fridge-freezer. She also wanted two dishwashers, an extra-large sink and a hot tap with a spray function.

Having high ceilings, she also wanted the doors to have an elongated look, coming all the way down to the worksurface. She was very specific with her paint colour palette and wanted to replicate the antique stained wood effect that she has on other furniture in the home for her island.

Q) How did you answer the brief?

To create a kitchen that met the needs of the family, I began by designing an open-plan space that incorporated a dining and living area. To accommodate the client’s vision of a clean, warm-toned kitchen with an accent colour for the island, I suggested in-frame furniture with elongated doors that came all the way down to the worksurface, as well as a replication of the antique stained wood effect seen on other furniture in the home. Overall, I ensured that the design was practical, functional and aesthetically pleasing while also reflecting the client’s specific needs and preferences.

Q) Which products did you use and why?

For this project, we used high-quality materials such as Caesarstone quartz worktops, solid wood cabinetry and premium appliances. These products are well-known for their durability, functionality, and aesthetic appeal and are often preferred by clients who value quality and performance. The use of these products also aligns with Sheraton Interiors’ reputation for delivering luxury kitchen designs that are built to last.

Q) Which design elements make the scheme so successful?

The design makes excellent use of the available space, maximising the kitchen’s functionality and storage capacity. The colour scheme is consistent throughout, with a palette of neutral tones and subtle accents that create a harmonious and sophisticated look. The use of high-quality materials, such as stone countertops, solid wood cabinetry and premium appliances all add to the kitchen’s overall sense of luxury and durability.

Every element of the design, from the intricate detailing on the cabinetry to the placement of the lighting fixtures, demonstrates a keen attention to detail and a commitment to excellence.

The design seamlessly integrates the kitchen with the adjacent dining and living areas, creating a sense of flow and connection between the different spaces. Overall, this project is successful because it combines a thoughtful use of space, a cohesive colour scheme, quality materials, attention to detail and integration with other spaces to create a beautiful and functional kitchen that meets the client’s needs and exceeds their expectations.

Q) Any advice for someone who may be planning a new kitchen?

If you’re planning a new kitchen, my advice is to start by determining your needs and goals for the space. From there, set a realistic budget and consider the layout, flow, and functionality. Choose high-quality materials that are durable and aesthetically pleasing and think about lighting to enhance the ambiance and functionality.

Consider hiring a professional kitchen designer to help you navigate the complex world of kitchen design and ensure that your new kitchen meets your needs and exceeds your expectations. By following these tips, you can create a kitchen that is not only beautiful but also functional and tailored to your specific needs and preferences.
