Heat Of The Moment – The Latest Hobs And Extractors

When it comes to appliances, hobs and extractors are the perfect pair; every kitchen, no matter how large or small, needs efficient extraction to remove cooking odours and steam so this month we’re taking a look at the latest innovations to hit the market…

An all-in-one induction downdraft extractor hob, the DD935BK from Caple is super-flexible with 13 power levels, 0-9, bake at 42˚C, keep warm at 70˚C, boil control at 94˚C and a booster on every zone. What’s more, it also comes with a built-in downdraft extractor in the centre, which features four speeds including boost and an automatic timer that switches off ten minutes after cooking has ended. In black glass, it has sleek slider touch controls, a bevelled edge and flush black downdraft grille. A bridge function connects more than one zone together to accommodate larger pans, making this the perfect choice for families or those who enjoy entertaining. You can also benefit from a keep warm, automatic heat-up and a pause, memory recall and timer function. Space saving installation allows you to use the valuable space directly underneath the appliance with the plinth motor located beneath the plinth line to avoid obstruction in the lower cabinets. It’s priced around £3,314 at www.caple.co.uk

For seamless extraction and ideal for an island unit, Franke’s new state-of-the-art Mythos 2gether provides powerful extraction without a large appliance in your sightline. Frameless in black glass, it features a fully integrated extractor centrally between four flexible cooking zones. Its removable grille in hardwearing enamelled cast iron is flush mounted, so you can slide between cooking zones while the drip tray is easy to access and clean. There are three power levels plus two intensive and an intuitive digital touch panel with white LEDs. There’s also automatic pan detection and hood activation with a price of around £3,395 at www.franke.co.uk

Fresh from EuroCucina, Alba is a new ceiling extractor from Falmec with minimalist design. Distinguished by a perimetral glass frame protruding from the ceiling, the functional core is concealed behind a matt white painted panel that seamlessly blends into the ceiling. Part of Falmec’s Design collection, it also features a glass frame perimeter which is blacklit when in use. It’s compatible with several different motors including a recirculating system and can be painted to match existing décor. It’s available to order from July at www.falmec.co.uk

Italian cooker hood manufacturer Faber lifted the lid on a range of new products at Grand Designs Live back in May. There was an expanded selection of ceiling hoods, island designs and a brand new combination hob extractor. The Galileo combination appliance features a waterproof motor, cast iron grid and can fit into a 60cm deep worktop. It’s simple to fit and offers space beneath for a drawer. There were also two new F-light models with Air Line technology that duct without using any ducting at all. Visitors to the show also saw the launch of The Glow extractor, a stunning hood in black or white glass and a circular band around its base, which can be used to illuminate the kitchen. Finally, the Odette is available in three styles, which either feature Up & Down technology, the new Faber Air Lane system or can simply hang from the ceiling and be operated in recirculating mode. www.faberhoods.co.uk

At EuroCucina, the line-up included a new selection of Professional Series hobs. Carefully designed to provide even more accuracy and control, the P905CPROX gas hob has a central wok and single dual-ring power burner for high-efficiency performance from delicate simmer to full power. Functional and elegant, the 90cm hob shows off Bertazzoni’s signature metal knobs and cast iron pan supports. www.bertazzoni.com

For instant wow factor, the C871GBK five-burner design is operated by stainless steel dials with a 3.4kW triple ring burner ideal for large pans and wok cooking, a 2.4kW rapid burner for a speedy boil and two 1.88kW semi-rapid burners as well as a 0.9kW simmer burner. Added benefits include cast iron pan supports, auto electronic ignition and a flame safety device. It’s priced around £367 at www.caple.co.uk

Thanks to the suspended installation of Franke’s Cloud hood, this extractor appears to be floating above the worksurface. Ideal for adding wow factor to the kitchen, it’s available in grey or white and is operated by illuminated, intuitive touch controls with three speed settings plus intensive and has a built-in sensor that automatically adjusts the brightness to suit the ambient surroundings. It’s priced £3,995 at www.franke.co.uk
