New colour inspirations for the spring and summer months
By Linda Parker
This time we’re looking at some different colour ideas for interiors … first of all, new neutrals and softer hues from HIMACS , a colour and lighting refresh for a classic kitchen and then a closer look at some vibrant and colourful schemes from Yellow London.
New colours for 2026 from HIMACS by LX Hausys
LX Hausys has introduced 15 new HIMACS colours, including soft muted pastels, natural s and terrazzo-style designs. This understated yet extremely stylish kitchen with accent colours shows off the new Terrazzo Ulivo, which includes recycled content, for the work and wall surfaces, and new Lafayette Green in the Solids colour group, for the fluted fascias (island) and cabinets. Lafayette Green is a darker pastel, there’s an accompanying lighter shade, Urban Sage, which is fresh and soothing.
New marble-looks in Calacatta from HIMACS by LX Hausys
The new HIMACS colours also include three new Calacatta colours/designs, Vista, Calacatta Desert Moon and Lake Moon, which are added to the Calacatta family of colours. Desert Moon is a creamy, warm-toned marble design and Calacatta Lake Moon is the semi-translucent option. All the HIMACS designs are tough, non-porous and thermoformable so curves and all-in-one sinks, bowls and basins can be integrated into kitchen and bathroom plans.
The new Auroras from HIMAX by LX Hausys
The new Aurora designs from the Aurora and Marmo collection there are paler shades, plus a striking black – Aurora Nero – which is a perfect contrast to the lighter colours. New shade Aurora Alps is available in a wider format sheet – 1520mm, which allows designers to create more expansive seamless surfaces.
Kitchen refresh by Becks Sherwood at Knight Project Management
We were interested to see a kitchen project refreshment, carried out by designer Becks Sherwood at Knight Project Management. She used Benjamin Moore paint and Industville lighting for a new look in the kitchen that was originally installed a few years ago by Chisholm Design. She comments ‘The overall design of the existing kitchen worked well, with the cabinetry in excellent condition. However, there was a temptation to move away from the previous palette of blues and greys toward the current trend for earthy, warmer tones’. She specified Fatigue Green paint from Benjamin Moore, retaining the drama of a deep shade and creating a feeling a calm and elegance. To add a new look to the existing layered lighting, Becks also chose Brooklyn Glass Schoolhouse Pendant Lights by Industville to add more drama to the layout.
New pendants by Industville add focus to the updated kitchen
The refreshed design by Becks Sherwood considers symmetry and light, with the three Industville pendants positioned opposite the three kitchen windows overlooking the garden. The roof light is also perfectly positioned to ensure a light-filled, layered and precise new and updated look for the kitchen. She also updated the cabinets with solid brass knurled handles and knobs in Antique Brass finish, using the Morfi and Manhattan designs from Meraki.
Vibrant kitchen interiors by Yellow London
We’re taking a closer look at some interiors by Yellow London, the interior design studio founded by Cath Beckett and Liv Taylor. Their projects range from London townhouses to country home and international villas, with a strong focus on a bold colour palette. The design duo often choose muted background shades for kitchen spaces, introducing bolder colours with the cabinetry and decorative design details such as patterned tiles and interesting artworks. Above, Cath Beckett comments ‘We brought energy to this space by lifting the cream kitchen with the bold accent of red cabinetry. Balancing neutrals with a pop of vibrant colour ensures the kitchen feels inviting and characterful’. Kitchen from Elgar Kitchens, painted in Tuscan Red by Little Greene
A bold colour scheme for a kitchen bar design by Yellow London
Cath Beckett from Yellow London describes this cosy and colourful kitchen bar as lively and perfect for entertaining. ‘The vibrant red brings a playful edge to this bar. Paired with the illuminated shelving and rich tones of the tiles, the result is uplifting and bold’. Paint colour is Eating Room Red by Farrow & Ball
Deep orange repaint for a sense of energy, by Yellow London
This kitchen was refreshed and repainted by the Yellow London design team. ‘We used a deep orange for the joinery, bringing an inherent warmth, sense of energy and optimism to the room. The kitchen had good natural light, highlighting the warm tones and creating a colour scheme that works really well for entertaining and family life’ says Cath Beckett. Main paint colour is Caravan by Paint & Paper Library
Zingy colours, warm wood tones and patterned fabrics featured by Yellow London
This kitchen bar was designed to bring a touch of eclecticism to a room that would host friends and family on a regular basis. Cath Beckett explains ‘ We wanted to create a bar space that was both lively and relaxed, and was interesting to look at. We paired vibrant green tiles with soft purple accents. The different colours and textures, surrounded by warm wood tones, make a cosy scheme inviting and comfortable’. Take a look at more projects by the Yellow London team here.
Summer colour for outdoor projects by Little Greene
As new kitchen-living-family spaces very often stretch into the garden, perhaps as a result of adding full-width doors opening onto a new terrace, here are a couple of suggestions for bold and bright colour solutions. Above, Exterior wall paint in Phthalo Green, bench in Slaked Lime, both by Little Greene.
Deep Space Blue for exterior drama, by Little Greene
A full width kitchen extension in a terraced home may well have two side walls – and they don’t have to be painted white or a muted shade. Consider something more adventurous, such as Deep Space Blue, by Little Greene, for a distinctive finishing touch. Available as masonry paint, as well as the usual eggshells, gloss and emulsions.
