Styling up for Christmas… here are some classic ideas

By

Creating beautiful Christmas displays, whether for home, showroom, kitchen or living spaces is often a labour of love. This year, we’re focusing on some classic Christmas looks that will look good for years to come.

Make a classic display with candlesticks, baubles and decorations from John Lewis

The John Lewis team has created four decorative themes this year Ancient Wonders, Enchanted Tales Heirloom Splendour and Worldly Treasure. These candlesticks, tied with bows (super on-trend this year) and pom-pom strings are all part of the Enchanted Tales theme. Use your cake stands for displays of fruit and baubles too for a magical look. Visit Christmas at John Lewis

Mix everyday table linen with decorative ideas by Talking Tables

Go for a natural, woodland theme featuring red and green for a traditional festive look. Suspended displays are always impressive – check your fixings though! Ideas shown here include Folklore Napkins and Crackers, all from this year’s Christmas range by Talking Tables

Christmas cushions from H&M Home are subtle and festive …

If you don’t fancy the idea of glitter and tinsel everywhere, go for a more subdued approach … as perfectly illustrated with some of the under-stated ideas in the H&M HOME collection. These cotton cushion covers are a modest investment at £6.99 each.

Group together small arrangements for a big seasonal splash – these are by JYSK

Gather several small arrangements together for a more impactful look. Going for an overall colour theme, such as subdued deep pinks and naturals will look festive and the colour scheme doesn’t have to scream ‘Christmas’ whilst still looking seasonal. Faux flowers, vases and linen, all by JYSK

Elegant candle holders and a table garland from Atkin & Thyme

This simple faux Berry & Ivy Garland doesn’t take up too much space on a table, and pairs very well with glass candlestick holders and ribbed stemware. From a very festive Christmas  collection by Atkin & Thyme. Also, take a quick look at the Lighting collection for striking glass pendants.

A perfect Christmas wreath from Luna & Wild

This wreath from Luna & Wild has a twisted wooden vine base, and decorations include star anise, ferns, berries and foliage. It’s a good investment for indoors or out, it will look stylish and vibrant for years to come.   Also hold Christmas bauble and wreath workshops so bear in mind for Xmas 2026!

Scandi-style furniture and seasonal decorations from Pottery Barn

We were very excited to see the launch of Pottery Barn in the UK, and the Christmas collection is most definitely worth a look. The seasonal bedlinen is also rather beautiful too. Shown here, the Farmhouse extending dining table, Toscana bench, Layton chairs and various festive table decs.

Matching crackers, napkins and coasters from Annabel James

This year has brought another lovely festive collection from Annabel James, this is the Partridge in a Pear Tree design.  A set of six crackers arrives in a presentation box, so could be a good idea for a festive gift or just for the Christmas table.

Natural style with garlands and recycled glassware from Dibor

The Woodland Walk Natural Christmas garland from Dibor uses pine cones and greenery, and can be ordered with or without lights. Check out the colourful wine glasses as well, which come in an array of natural colours to compliment Christmas decorations.

Brilliant blue and rust tones from John Lewis’s Worldly Treasures Christmas theme

We love these bold colours from John Lewis, part of the Worldly Treasures Christmas decorative theme. Take a closer look at the accessories here. The glorious Butterscotch linen sofa is the four-seater Kingham, the dramatic striped chair is the Suffolk in Red and Natural.

Create a colour-themed Christmas collection with decorations by Gisela Graham

Sticking to one or two colours for a decorative look is a simple and stylish way to create a coherent scheme. Build a theme throughout the year and add to it whenever you spot a suitable purchase. These Christmas collectibles are by Gisela Graham including the Nutcracker, £49.99.

Paper trees and glam glassware from Idyll Home

There’s something very nostalgic about these fold-out gold tissue paper trees, available from the Christmas offerings at Idyll Home , also available in Ivory and Green. They remind me of my childhood concertina paper chains! Take a look at the pretty glassware too …

Set the festive atmosphere with candles from Little Moments Melts

If you want long-lasting seasonal fragrances, go for natural soy wax candles, the Christmas Tree signature candles from Little Moments Melts are vegan and have a long 45 hour burn time. Keep home or showroom fragrant all-year round with diffusers, melts and room fragrances too.

Deck the halls with Laura Ashley

For luxurious opulence, look no further than the Christmas ideas from Laura Ashley. Set of three ceramic trees, £35, glass hurricane light, £70. All fabrics and wallpaper, which is Jade Green Apolline also be Laura Ashley, naturally!

Adding the final touch with Rockett St George

And finally, we had to include our favourite Christmas stocking for 2025! It’s the rather glam Milagro Red & Gold Embroidered Christmas Stocking, from Rockett St George. There’s a matching Christmas present sack available too, for the rest of the gifts …
